The Chief of Air Staff Operations, Maj Gen Wiseman Mbambo,
urged learners who attended the Africa Aerospace and Defence
exhibition held at Air Force Base Waterkloof from 14-18
September 2016, to utilize the opportunity and learn more
about careers in the defence industry.

The welcoming ceremony happened at Air Force Base Swartkop
(Mobile Deployment Wing) on 17 September 2016. At least 75
pupils from 26 schools; eight from KwaZulu-Natal, 15 from
the Eastern Cape, two from the Free State and one from
Gauteng were on parade. Among them were also the Young
Falcons from the Free State Province. Gen Mbambo told the
learners to remain focused on their books and be disciplined
in order to achieve their dreams.
“The SA Air Force needs young and disciplined soldiers who
will be able to take the organisation forward and defend the
country as pilots, navigators, engineers, technicians and
air traffic controllers. You must be ready to serve your
country under any situation, irrespective of any weather
conditions, grab the opportunity given and use it
effectively", he said.
Air Force Base Swartkop
(Mobile Deployment Wing) provided shelter to the Youth
Development Programme learners
According to the Camp Commander, WO2 Gert Zaayman, a total
of 847 learners were hosted at the camp during the AAD 2016.
It was the second time for AFB Swartkop to host a larger
group of learners. All nine provinces were represented at
AAD 2016 with Gauteng being the first province to be hosted
under the Youth Development Programme in the previous
