The welcoming ceremony happened at Air Force Base Swartkop (Mobile Deployment Wing) on 17 September 2016. At least 75 pupils from 26 schools; eight from KwaZulu-Natal, 15 from the Eastern Cape, two from the Free State and one from Gauteng were on parade. Among them were also the Young Falcons from the Free State Province. Gen Mbambo told the learners to remain focused on their books and be disciplined in order to achieve their dreams.

“The SA Air Force needs young and disciplined soldiers who will be able to take the organisation forward and defend the country as pilots, navigators, engineers, technicians and air traffic controllers. You must be ready to serve your country under any situation, irrespective of any weather conditions, grab the opportunity given and use it effectively", he said.
