The Perfect Season for AFB Waterkloof Ladies Soccer Team Goalkeeper

On Friday 8 August 2014 Cpl Siphokazi Vukutu won Goalkeeper of the Tournament at the Defence Championships held at AFB Ysterplaat. This marked her third major accomplishment of the season, having previously won goalkeeper of the tournament for the SAAF and the Interforces Championships.

Siphokazi is only 24 and started playing soccer in 2012 when she transferred to 28 Squadron at AFB Waterkloof. Cpl Vukutu joined the SAAF in January 2011 as MSC Supply where she completed her Basic Training and then worked at 1AD Stores for six months before being transferred to 28 Squadron in 2012.

The AFB Waterkloof Ladies Soccer Team won the SAAF Championships in both 2013 and 2014, and in 2014 Cpl Vukutu was awarded the goalkeeper of the Tournament and selected to play for the SAAF Ladies Soccer Team.

Cpl Vukutu’s other accomplishments include;
• Best female footballer in the SAAF in 2013

• Goal Keeper of the Tournament at AF Gym Valhalla in 2013 where her team won the SAAF Championships without conceding a goal.

• Winning Goalkeeper of the Tournament at the Interforces in Grahamstown in 2013
Making the Gauteng Team in both 2013 and 2014

• Winning Goalkeeper of the Tournament at the Ysterplaat Defence Championships where her team also won the tournament.

In the future AFB Waterkloof can proudly look forward to seeing Siphokazi Vukuti representing the Defence Team in September at Nelspruit where they will be competing against Botswana and Lesotho.
