SAAF Fire Training School initiated the above competition
during 1986 with the main objective being the measuring of
the training, skills, fitness and standard of the SAAF fire
and rescue services.
The competition was later expanded to include the other Arms
of Service of the Defence Force and Airports Company.
During 1997 the RSA was the host country for the
International Fire Games, which took place in the city of
Durban. Thirty-four countries participated including USA,
UK, France, New Zealand, Australia and Japan. This event
takes place every four years in a different country, where
Fire Brigades from all over the world participate, measuring
and displaying their levels of skill, fitness and training.
