Senior Chief Warrant Officer



SCWO L.D. Tshabalala (WO SAAF)

Senior Chief Warrant Officer Lefu Dan Tshabalala was born 12 November 1957 in Viljoenskroon.  Started school in 1964 and completed his matric through distance learning.

His military career started in May 1977in the then Bophuthatswana Defence Force (Bop Defence).  Promoted to L Cpl at the end of 1977 and served in the Infantry as Section Commander before he moved to Human Resources mid 78 as a Cpl.  Promoted to Sgt in 1980 and F Sgt in 1982. 

In 1985 when he was promoted to the rank of WO2, he became the Chief Personnel Clerk.  In 1990 he was promoted to the rank of WO1 and appointed as Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM).  Appointed as RSM of the then Bophuthatswana Air Force in 1992.

SCWO Tshabalala completed his Human Resources functional courses up to and including the Chief Personnel Clerk at the Bop Def and the Personnel Service School. 

He completed his Senior Warrant Officers Course at the SA Army College in 1989.  He attended the Equal Opportunity Advisors course in the United States Air Force in 1996.

He integrated in 1995 and worked at Human Resources Services, recruiting and selecting new members for the SA Air Force (SAAF).  In 2000 he was appointed as Directing Staff Member at the SA Air Force College and in 2001 as Senior Directing Staff. 

In Jan 02 he was appointed as the Chief Instructor and only six months later as the Sergeant Major of the Inspector General of the Air Force.  In Sep 04 he was appointed as the Warrant Officer in Charge of the Warrant Officers’ Academy.  SCWO Tshabalala took over the post of the Warrant Officer of the Air Force on the 1st Nov 08.

He is an introvert and likes his space.  He enjoys working out in the gym and walking.

His philosophy in life is “Never do things to please others, just do what is right.”
